8 Excellent Home Remedies for bedwetting

Bedwetting, also known as “Nocturnal enuresis” is a condition, when a person (more common in kids above 5 years age) passes out urine, unknowingly while sleeping. In the paediatric department, bedwetting is one of the most common urologic issues faced by kids, however this condition can also be found in adults who have underlying health issues.

If a person does bedwetting even after the age of 5-7 years, it is important to know the cause and go for a treatment. Amongst many causes of bedwetting, some are comparatively smaller bladder, stress, hormonal imbalance, urinary tract infection, sleep apnea, acute constipation, diabetes, excessive urine production etc. There are many home remedies for bedwetting that can be tried out primarily and if not successful, you can opt for medicines. Here are some of them –

1. Cinnamon

Easily available in the kitchen, cinnamon powder can help a child stop wetting the bed at night. Let your child chew at least one small cinnamon bark every day. Many do not like the taste; in that case you can mix the cinnamon powder with sugar powder and sprinkle it over a bread toast. Since this spice keeps the body warm, urination at night is reduced.

2. Olive Oil

You need to heat a little amount of olive oil and gently rub and massage it over and around the lower abdomen. This produces a heating effect in the area and will prevent the child wetting his bed during the night.

3. Indian Gooseberries

This is popularly known as amla and every effective in treating the problem of bedwetting. You need to grind some gooseberries and pour few drops of honey on them and sprinkle a little turmeric. Add them in the diet during breakfast preferably; you can also add black pepper powder to gooseberry pulp and feed your child everyday at bed time.

4. Cranberries

These berries are very useful in healing kidney and bladder related disorders. It effectively cures bedwetting and kidney infections. It is a conventional idea that a person who does bedwetting should not be allowed drinks before sleep, but a glass of cranberry juice at bed time can solve the problem in long run.

5. Honey

This natural sweetener does not add any fat to the body yet helps you get rid of a number of diseases. Give the person a tablespoon of honey every night or add a tablespoon of honey in a glass of milk, and cure the ailment naturally.

6. Walnuts and Raisins

A handful of dry fruits as snacks can be truly beneficial if you are suffering from bedwetting troubles. Have walnuts and raisins considerably throughout the day and see the difference after a couple of months.

7. Mustard

The mustard seeds are extremely beneficial for bedwetting. You need to stir few mustard seeds in a cup of warm milk and drink it at bed time to treat this disorder.

8. Bladder Exercises

Apart from trying out any of the above suitable remedies, also indulge in a routine of exercises to make the bladder stronger and better. Take help of a trainer and do some muscle-strengthening exercises everyday that will help in tightening of the pelvic muscles. You need to be in the position for 5 to 10 seconds, and then take rest for five seconds. Repeat this exercise for about 10 times, thrice every day.
