Onion (Allium Cepa)

Onion is a natural antibiotic. It is rich in sulfur compounds, acids and flavonoids.The sulfur compounds have the natural ability to fight off all the unwanted bacteria, parasites and yeast. The sulfur based pharmaceutical drug was the first developed antibiotic! Onions are loaded with enzymes that breaks the mucus and helps it exit the body.

Researchers call onion extract “an anticancer substance of high value” because of onion extract’s ability to keep cancerous cells from proliferating or growing out of control, and because phenols and flavonoids in the onion act as antioxidants to neutralize harmful free radicals. It has lots of Vitamin C, which is an immune-system-booster.


Lemon has proved to be a nature’s boon to everyone. It is a known antibacterial and has high amounts of vitamin C and other vitamins like B6, Thiamine, and Riboflavin etc. Lemon helps in fighting off respiratory disorders.


Ginger has been used from centuries to reduce the inflammation.Ginger does contain numerous other anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds beneficial to health such as gingerols, beta-carotene, capsaicin, caffeic acid, curcumin and salicylate.Ginger is an excellent herb for both preventing and treating colds and flu.


Honey is made up of glucose, fructose, and minerals such as iron, calcium phosphate, sodium chlorine, potassium & magnesium. The slightly acidic pH level of honey (between 3.2 and 4.5) is what helps prevent the growth of bacteria, while its antioxidant constituents cleans up free radicals. The physical properties of honey vary depending on the specific flora that was used to produce it, as well as its water content.

How to Prepare it?

Ingredients: One big sized Onion, one Lemon,Honey- 8 tablespoons or can add more as required, Medium sized ginger juice-1 tablespoon. Onion is cut into slices in a bowl and lemon, honey and ginger is added and this mixture should be refrigerated for 1 day. Your syrup would be ready by next day! This can be stored in a closed container for 1 week.

For infants 2 years and above: 2 teaspoons of this mixture twice a day can be given. Since honey is not advised for infants under 2, it can be replaced with sugar.

As we say prevention is better than cure, taking a spoon of this syrup daily improves the kids immune system and fights against the infection. If the symptoms persist for longer, it is always advisable to see the doctor.
