A happy and healthy lifestyle can be maintained by having a complete and balanced meal. For our healthy development, we need to ensure that our diet is filled with minerals and vitamins. People usually don’t take their meals seriously which is the sole reason behind the rapid increase in many diseases like diabetes, obesity, certain types of cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

Here are some tips that can help you maintain a healthy diet which would in turn help you in enriching your lifestyle:

Eat the right amount of Calories:

The most important thing while taking any meal is that you consume the right amount of calories as per your body structure and requirements. According to many statistics, it is recommended that men should consume around 2500 calories and women should consume around 2000 calories every day. People are falling victim to many diseases these days only because they are consuming more or less calories than required. Consuming the right amount of calories is the first step towards a healthy diet.

Have variety in your meals:

Having only a particular type of meal can never satiate the requirement of the body. It is imperative that your meals contain an assortment of food from all food groups so that the body gets the right nutrients in the right amount required. Vegetables, fruits, breads, milk /yoghurt/cheese should all be included in your meals so that you get the right amount of calcium, vitamin, protein and fibre in your body.

Minimize the use of saturated fat and sugar:

Fats are always present in a meal but it is necessary to ensure that we are consuming the right type of fat. Heart diseases are caused by high cholesterol which increases once the body starts consuming too much of saturated fat. Cakes, biscuits, butter, hard cheese etc have the most amount of saturated fat, hence they should not be consumed daily in a large quantity. Alcoholic drinks and fizzy beverages have the most amount of added sugar which could also increase the cholesterol level in the blood.

Load up on whole grains:

Whole grains have proved to be beneficial for health as they reduce the risk of heart diseases. People who are conscious of their weight eat a lot of whole grains as it helps in weight management too. Whole grains contain vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that are vital for the maintenance of our body. Whole grain wheat, oatmeal, whole oats are some examples that can be added to your daily meals. They also contain a lot of fibre, which the body digests slowly making you feel full for a longer period of time.

Drink as much water as you can:

In the U.S., water is the second most popular beverage, after soft drinks where it should be on top. Water is necessary in order to maintain the flow of nutrients in the body. It is recommended that we should drink a whole glass of water as soon as we wake up and thirty minutes before eating any big meal. Water is great for flushing out toxins from the body, which helps you stay fresh and makes your skin feel good too.
