Constipation is a problem which affects large number of people across the country. But while it affects a few of us mildly, others may bear a more serious brunt of it.  Some of the general symptoms of constipation include hard, dry and painful stool, difficulty in pooping and pain pooping.

The condition is rarely a sign of something very serious but even then it is important to get rid of it. While there are many medicines available for treating this problem, it is better to opt for natural ways or remedies. The following is a list of the most amazing home remedies for constipation.

1. Fish Oil

Omega 3 fatty acids play a big role in many body functions, out of which digestion is one of the major ones.  Fish oil is loaded with omega 3s and this is why it is a recommended solution for the problem of constipation. Certain studies have shown that omega 3s can also be helpful in managing symptoms of crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis which include constipation. Fish oil is a rich source of these fatty acids.

2. Castor Oil

Another home remedy for avoiding and curing constipation is castor oil.  It is a yellowish liquid which is laxative in nature and helps to treat chronic constipation.  It works very quickly and since it tastes bitter, it can be taken with a sweetener like orange juice. Its overdose must be avoided.

3. Fiber

Another superb home remedial solution for constipation is fiber. It is recommended to intake 20 to 35 grams of fiber everyday. It can be found in vegetables, fruits and whole grains.  One can also take fiber supplements to avoid constipation.

4. Herbs

Another superb solution for treating constipation is herbs. Herbs are a nature’s gift to us and the oldest forms of constipation treatments.  There are two types of herbs and they are bulk forming and stimulant laxatives. Some commonly used bulk forming herbs for treating constipation include flaxseeds, barley and fenugreek seeds.  Stimulant herbs for constipation are aloe, senna and cascara segrada. One must speak to a physician before trying out any of these.

5. Probiotics

Probiotics are basically the bacteria present inside our intestines and promote digestion. Some of the examples of probiotics are lactobacillus, bifidobacterium and sacchromyces boulardi. They are also available in supplement form such as yoghurt. Like fiber, probiotics too prove to be a cure for constipation and should be had on a daily basis to find relief.

6. Lemon

Lemons too prove to be a great solution for constipation.  They stimulate the digestive system and move things inside it.  To use lemons for treating constipation, drink lemon water every day in the morning on an empty stomach. You can also make a solution of water, honey and a few drops of lemon.

7. Fennel

Fennels seeds can also be used to treat the problem of constipation.  You can roast fennel seeds, grind them, sieve them and have this mixture every morning with water.
