Using an ice pack helps in reducing the dilated cerebral blood vessels and it reduces the throbbing pain in your head. Take a towel or a handkerchief and put some ice cubes in it and apply the pack on your forehead, temples and back of your neck. Continue doing this for about ten or fifteen minutes; it will compress the nerves and blood vessels and thereby reduce the pain.
You can take raw ginger and chew it to help in reducing migraine pain and the associated symptoms of nausea. You can also take ginger tea at regular intervals as soon as the pain starts to reduce the pain eventually. Ginger capsules also can be taken as immediate medication.
Peppermint helps in soothing this spasmodic pain because of its anti inflammatory properties. You can drink peppermint tea with honey to help deal with migraine. Peppermint oil can also be massaged on the temples as the fragrance of this herb has a soothing effect. Equal amounts of peppermint oil in combination with lavender oil can also be massaged.
Sometimes migraines occur due to dehydration, thus drinking at least 2 liters of water in 2-3 hours can relive the pain subsequently. Drink lukewarm water to relieve the tremendous pain.
