Sleep Apnea is quite a common sleeping disorder experienced by millions. It is characterized by interruptions in breathing caused while you are asleep or even briefly stopping breathing completely as well. It is caused due to respiratory tract blockages and it can occur if the brain fails to send signals to breathing muscles.

This disorder affects people of all ages and can affect children as well. However, it is mostly seen in males than in females. Certain factors like old age, heart diseases, obesity, narrow throat, thick neck circumference, family history etc. can increase the risk of sleep apnea. Here are some easy home remedies for curing sleep apnea:


Honey is immensely helpful when it comes to treating sleep apnea. It is anti inflammatory in nature and can reduce throat swelling that obstructs airways. It also prevents snoring (a common symptom of sleep apnea) by lubricating your throat.

Drink a warm glass of water with a teaspoon of honey every night before going to bed. Or you can mix a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of black pepper power in a warm glass of water and sip it slowly. 1 tbsp of honey and ½ teaspoon of lemon juice mixed in warm water can help you lose weight. Drink this in empty stomach early in the morning.

Cinnamon Powder

Take a glass of warm water and add 3 teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Mix well and drink this mixture once daily. You can also make a paste with cinnamon power and water and apply that you on your forehead and chest. This would clear blockages.


Chamomile is a very effective nature treatment for sleep apnea. The herb promotes sedation and sleep and contains chemicals that can relax your muscles and nerves. It is also anti inflammatory is nature and soothes your airways and prevents snoring. Take a cup of water and add 2 teaspoon of dried chamomile. Steep for 4 – 5 minutes and add honey and cinnamon after straining the liquid. Drink this an hour before going to bed at night. You can also massage your neck with a mixture of olive oil and chamomile oil few times daily.


Eating 2 – 3 cloves of garlic daily in empty stomach can cure the symptoms of sleep apnea. It is anti inflammatory in nature and reduces swellings in your throat and makes breathing easy while you are asleep. You can also consider taking garlic supplements.


This is yet another herb that helps you to enjoy quality sleep. It soothes your nerve and prevents any kind of muscle obstruction in your throat as well. Simply add few drops of lavender oil to a cup of hot water and inhale that steam before going to bed. Lavender tea is also helpful.


Gargle with water mixed with peppermint oil or drink peppermint tea every day to treat sleep apnea.

Walnuts and onions can also help in treating the symptoms of sleep apnea as they have anti inflammatory properties.
