All of us like to stroll about in the sun in order to achieve vitamin D formation from the sun’s rays that is necessary for our body. In western countries, people wait to enjoy in the sun after experiencing tremendous winters and they enjoy getting tanned from the sunlight.
However, in the eastern countries especially in India, people are not very keen in getting tanned from the sun’s rays. They try to adopt various measures to shed the tan effect from their faces, hands and legs. The melanin in our body increases from the sun’s ultraviolet rays and this is the reason why people get tanned when exposed to the sun.
Patience and care are the two major factors needed to bring your tanned skin back to the normal state. Following are some of the home remedies useful to treat tanned skin:
Lemon consists of bleaching properties and is a great cure for sun tans. Lemon juice can be applied to the affected area and allowed to dry before washing it away. Also, you may add some sugar to the lemon juice and apply on the tanned area for better results. This can be done thrice a week for quick recovery as sugar is considered to be a cleansing agent.
This is a very effective product for reducing sun tans. Yogurt cools the skin, decreases skin redness and stiffens the skin pores. You can apply a mixture of yogurt, tomato and lime juice on the affected area and allow it to remain for about 30-40 minutes before rinsing it away with lukewarm water.
Use of Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a useful gel and helps to restore the skin back to normal state within a week’s time. Application of fresh aloe Vera gel on the sun tanned area cleanses and nourishes the skin.
Raw potato is a rich source of vitamin C and is useful as natural bleach. Prepare a mixture of potato and lemon juice and apply it to the sun tanned area over your skin. Let it dry. Wash it away after half an hour with cold water.
Cucumber juice is good for skin as it acts as a cooling agent and removes sun tan. Its vitamin C content helps to keep the skin moisturized. You can make a mixture of cucumber juice, lemon juice and turmeric as a pack for application on the sun tanned skin. Place the pack over the skin for 30 minutes before rinsing it away. Also slices of cucumber can be used for this purpose.
Using gram flour is useful to remove dead skin cells. Applying a mixture of gram flour and water on the affected area heals the sun tan and makes your skin look more bright and young.
Mixture of Buttermilk and Oat Meal
Prepare a pack with a mixture of buttermilk and oatmeal and apply it over the sun tanned affected areas in circular motions. The oats acts as a natural exfoliator and the buttermilk soothes the skin.
Honey and Papaya Mix
A mixture of honey and papaya is a good remedy for healing tanned skins.
