AP Showing Swine Flu Decline, Maharashtra Gearing up for Second Wave

swine-fluThe H1N1 Swine Flu virus has been showing signs of decline over the past few days in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, according to the health minister of the state. There has been a sharp decline in the number of positive cases as well as in the number of people visiting the swine flu screening centres, said D Nagender, health minister, however he reiterated that there will be no slackening in the vigil against the virus, according to this PTI report.

In Maharashtra by contrast, there has been no let up in the positive swine flu cases in the state and in the city of Pune, the swine flu toll now tops 75, and it continues to be the swine flu capital of the country.  As there have been warnings issued about a second wave of swine flu, Maharashtra is now gearing up for it. With approaching winter, experts fear the swine flu pandemic might rise further.

According to this DNA report, the government of Maharashtra will be undertaking a series of workshops to train family doctors and paramedics statewide to battle the H1N1 virus.

The government will work closely with pharma company Wanbury and Indian Medical Association by organising workshops and training programmes for doctors and other paramedical staff,” according to secretary of medical education, Milind Mhaiskar.

So far, Maharashtra has recorded 147 deaths due to Swine Flu, with the national toll having gone above 366. So far Maharashtra has also reported the most number of positive cases with a total of 3,152 cases, followed by Delhi, which has nearly 3,000 cases of swine flu. In Karnataka, where the second highest number of deaths have resulted from the Swine flu virus, has had a total of 106 persons dying from the virus with 1124  confirmed cases in the state.
