Hygiene Product Sales Increase due to Swine Flu
With awareness on prevention and containment methods of the H1N1 Swine Flu virus increasing by the day among Indians, the sale of various hygiene products is also seeing a sharp rise in recent times.
- Dettol hand wash and liquid disinfectant has seen their sales increased by 40 to 45% in Maharashtra in recent months
- Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medicines are also seeing increased sales.
- Eucalyptus oil has seen a six fold increase in sale according to one medical store owner.
- Hand sanitisers, which were hardly known of earlier and which a chemist would typically sell about one bottle a day in a chemist’s shop has seen 20 bottles selling per day now, from that same chemists’ shop.
- New sanitiser brands are being launched by companies and others have even re-launched their older brands to keep up with the increased demand due to the new awareness about the efficacy and convenience of rinseless hand sanitisers.
- In Pune, the specially designed N90 and N95 masks, which are used to ward off the H1N1 virus are not only selling briskly, they are so sought after, people were willing to pay black market rates for them. A Rs 100 mask was being sold for Rs 300 to Rs 400 according to chemists.
