According to this Indian Express article, the Jahangir Nursing Home in Pune, which was accused as being responsible for the first Swine Flu death in India; that of Reeda Shaikh has been absolved or blame for the fatality.
On 3 August 2009, Reeda Shaikh, a 14 year old school student from Pune was the first Indian to die due to the H1N1 Swine flu virus and the family of the deceased girl had held the hospital responsible for negligence and inadequate / inappropriate treatment. They also filed a consumer complaint at the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Delhi for damages to the tune of Rs 5 crore.
According to the report of the expert committee of the B J Medical College and Sassoon Government Hospital doctors, however they have given a clean chit to the Jehangir Nursing Home and have absolved them of medical negligence due to which the family is reportedly in shock. “Looking at the clinical picture, there was no negligence in the management of the patient,” the report submitted by the expert committee is quoted as having said.
“We are blank, we now need to sit and decide on further action,” Ayesha Shaikh, aunt of the 14-year-old student of St Anne’s School was quoted as having said.
