NATCO is the latest company to launch an anti H1N1 Swine flu drug into the Indian market with the curbs on retail sale of Oseltamivir now removed by the government. The brand name of Natflu will now sell in Indian markets at the rate of Rs480 per strip of 10 pills. NATCO is one of the six pharmaceutical companies that have received the government’s approval to sell the drug in the retail market.
“We have already readied about 1.25 lakh doses. By the end of October, we will possibly sell one million doses. The company has tied up with distribution outlets and medical stores in the state. There are around 480 designated chemists across the country who can sell Tamiflu and 600 more are expected to get the schedule X licence by next month,” said P Bhaskara Narayana NATCO director and chief financial officer.
At this point the company is supplying 75 mg tablets of Natflu which is the adult dosage of the drug; however within about a month and half the paediatric formulation of the drug in syrup form will also be made available. Oseltamivir as well as its various formulations such as Fluvir, Tamiflu and now Natflu are prescription X drugs and cannot be sold without a doctor’s prescription.
