Retail Sale of Tamiflu, Fluvir

fluvirThe drug to combat the H1N1 Swine Flu pandemic Oseltamivir, which marketed under the two brand names Tamiflu (produced by Rosche pharmaceuticals) and Fluvir (produced by Hetero Healthcare Ltd) is now available though retail sale.

These swine flu drugs which were earlier available only in government hospitals will now be available for retail sale upon the production of a prescription from doctor. Eight chemists possess schedule X licence in Pune and are authorized for the sale of the drug according to this Times of India report.

480 designated medical shops having Schedule X licence across the country will be able to sell the drug, according to this PTI report.

Effort to limit use and avoid unnecessary use, are on and the cost of the drug itself at nearly Rs 50 per tablet is bound to be a deterrent as well.

Meanwhile the death toll from the Swine Flu virus in India is at 262 nationwide. The total number of people affected so far in the county is 8,477. Maharashtra continues to have the highest number of deaths resulting from swine flu, and that number is now over 100; at 107 deaths.
