Some More Swine Flu Prevention Tips
The frequent hand washing and sanitising, particularly after touching public areas, avoiding touching the mouth and nose, proper sneezing are all well known tips for preventing spread of the H1N1 Swine Flu virus which resides in the upper respiratory tract. This is the area to target, in order to make sure that the H1N1 virus has less of a chance at proliferation. According to Dr Mehta from Bangalore, there are tips other than these common ones, that we can also adopt to avert or arrest the spread of the virus:
- It is important to gargle twice a day with warm salt water. This simple but effective preventive method limits the proliferation of the virus.
- Clean your nostrils at least once a day with warm salt water. You can also use jala neti, or sutra neti (nasal irrigation where saline water is used to clear the nasal cavity using a pot or cup) but even blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing the nostril with an earbud dipped in salt water is effective in bringing down viral population.
- Boost your natural immunity with foods rich in Vitamin C (amla, citrus fruits etc.) Also check our earlier posts : Ginger and Black pepper for swine flu and Preventing Swine flu with Tulsi. These are excellent natural ways of preventing swine flu because rather than cure, they assist in prevention, by boosting, strengthening and reinforcing our natural immunity.
- Drink warm liquids as much as possible. It works by flushing away the viral populations away into the stomach. The stomach is hostile environment for them where they cannot survive.
So it is important to do all that we can to prevent Swine Flu rather than use up resources to cure it. It is after all a case of prevention always being better than cure.
