An innovative detection system for the H1N1 Swine Flu virus has been developed by an Ahmedabad based IT company. The Swine Flu Isolation Surveillance Systems are set up at the entry points of the currently ongoing Ambaji fair in north Gujarat.
According to this Times report, from Saturday onwards, nearly 1.5 lakh people have been scanned and of these, daily 10-15 showed a fever, but have not been quarantined, since they didn’t have swine flu symptoms.
This system consists of a scanner attached to a PC, which remotely scans people using infra-red rays. This system was earlier tried out at Singapore and Malaysian airports during the bird flu outbreak sometime back and it is thought that with the Navratri garba and raas events coming up, this will be of great value. The system not only records temperature, it also monitors the person’s pulse and oxygen saturation, all crucial indicators for screening of swine flu.
“It just took a minute. The doctors said I don’t have fever or any other symptoms of swine flu. I did not know about this disease,” said one of the persons who was scanned at the fair.
