Shabana Khanum was diagnosed as having contracted the H1N1 Swine Flu virus. However in the end of August she delivered a baby girl Zhora Fathima in Bangalore, who did not have the swine flu infection, according to this DNA India report.
The pregnant Shabana tested positive for Swine flu on 25th August and was administered Tamiflu from the day she tested positive and was kept under close observation. The baby was born three days later on 28th August of a normal delivery. There was no need for the baby to be given Tamiflu though the baby was kept away from the mother for 24 hours and not permitted to be breast fed for a duration. There were no complications and the message that the new mother had for everyone was not to worry.
There’s no need to be worried about the disease. The more you think about it, the infection will only aggravate. Though I contracted the H1N1 flu, my child and all my family members are safe,” she was reported as having said.
Pregnant women are one of the risk groups identified by the medical community as having higher chances of contracting H1N1 Swine Flu.
This is the second time that a woman who tested positive for swine flu gave birth to a swine flu negative baby; the first instance was in Pune some days back.
