In the 7 months that the H1 N1 Swine flu pandemic has had its grip over various parts of the world, it has claimed far more lives than the H5N1 Bird Flu virus did, according to this report.
Swine flu has already claimed about 4,500 lives worldwide, with a total of 3,75,000 positive cases being reported since we first heard of its outbreak in Mexico whereas since the first time the Bird flu made its presence felt in 2003, it has claimed only 262 human lives.
So far the count of fatalities in India from Swine flu is 405 officially confirmed deaths however the actual number may easily be a great deal higher.
Meanwhile the Swine Flu pandemic is now spreading its tentacles to North East India as well, with the first death being reported from the Mizoram capital of Aizwal. A 28 year old man died from Swine flu there, which is the first death from the H1N1 virus in the North eastern states. “The report of the throat and swab samples of C.M.S. Dawngliana, who died Sunday in a remote hospital in Mamit district of southern Mizoram, revealed late Thursday that he was infected with H1N1 virus,” according to an official.
