Swine Flu Toll in India Climbing Ever Higher; Reaches 74

According to the latest published article from The Times of India, the death toll from the H1N1 Swine flu infection is now 74 in India.  The number of those affected by the virus in the country is 3,095.

Most of the deaths are occurring from complications such as pneumonia. The sad story of Nagaraj, 38, from Chamarajpet in Bangalore; a typical swine flu victim goes like this: the patient was brought into hospital on 15 August with symptoms such as cough, breathlessness and high temperature.

He tested positive for the swine flu virus on 19 August. He was administered a course of Tamiflu, however developed several complications such as pneumonia, hypertension and diabetes, which ultimately led to multiple organ failure that claimed his life.

Similar stories of fatalities continue to trickle in from various parts of the country with Pune still having had the most number of fatalities; 25.

Samples being sent for testing/verification of the virus, are taking so long to come back, a week or more; that one of two things would already have transpired: the victim would either have recovered or may have succumbed; either scenario rendering the test results irrelevant for anything save the statistics.
