With four more fatalities resulting from the H1N1 virus infection, the toll of swine flu deaths in India has gone up to 33 in all as on Wednesday, according to news reports coming in. Two of these 4 deaths were in Bangalore and one each in Aurangabad and Pune respectively.
So Pune remains the swine flu capital of India and has recorded most number of reported cases as well as deaths in the country; 14 having died so far in the city. Maharashtra has reported the highest incidence of swine flu and in all 19 of the 33 deaths have occurred there; three of them being in Mumbai the state capital and India’s most populous city.
216 people tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, taking the total number of those afflicted with the pandemic to 2,242. Mumbai (48) and Pune (36) topped the list of Wednesday’s cases followed by Chennai (30) and Delhi (25), according to the Economic Times.
Globally, the toll is about 1800 deaths resulting from swine flu, with the highest number of fatalities being reported in the Americas (1579) followed by South East Asia and Europe.

Meanwhile, there was also a celebrity flu scare in India, and for a while, a rumour was rife in Bollywood that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was suspected of suffering from the swine flu virus. While working on the sets shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish the actor fell ill with flu like symptoms and a chest infection, which, it has since been clarified is not due to the swine flu virus. The fact that it is not swine flu was also clarified by father in law Amitabh Bachchan in his personal blog. Currently she is taking a break from the shooting and is advised to take complete rest at home.
