Swine Flu vaccine after 3-4 Months may be Redundant

Flu VaccineAccording to an interview published in the Business Standard, with Novavax President & CEO and director of CPL Biologicals, Rahul Singhvi, time is running out fast for the H1N1 Swine flu pandemic in India and vaccines introduced after 3 to 4 months, will be redundant.

Singhvi said that for India requisite permission was needed to hold clinical trials in the country, which is awaited. India wants ingenious technology so it does not have to be dependent on other countries for the cure he added. He stressed that under any circumstance, the vaccine has to come into the market within the next three to four months after which it could be too late.

Meanwhile yesterday, a record number of positive swine flu cases were reported in India. As many as 290 positive cases were reported and this takes the total number of infections from H1N1 swine flu in the country over 19,000; 19,162 to be precise.

A total of 57 people have died from swine flu in Rajasthan and 28 people in all have died in Delhi from the virus. The total number infected in that national capital is 5,603, with 186 cases reported yesterday and 176 reported the day before.
