According to this BBC report, the Swine flu toll in India has crossed 100 deaths. Pune is the city with the highest number of victims and Maharashtra is the state with the highest toll (48) followed by Tamil Nadu (15) and capital Delhi (12), the reports say. Swine flu has so far claimed about 1700 lives the world over so far. The total number of people now infected with the swine flu virus H1N1 in India is close to 4000.
Meanwhile in Chandigarh the health department is gearing up to deal with swine flu during winter following the prediction of the WHO that a second wave of more severe form of H1N1 is likely to hit in winter since previous flu pandemics have also shown more severity during winter . Reportedly the department has already increased preparations to deal with the disease and procured more Tamiflu doses from the Ministry of Health. “As of now, we are following Central guidelines for treatment. All five latest cases have been quarantined at home. If there are revised guidelines from the ministry, we shall follow them,” health officials have said.
