What Colleges Are Doing To Fight Swine Flu

One of the biggest targets for the swine flu virus are schools and colleges, since it thrives in public spaces where there is close human contact and many shared spaces which facilitate an easy communication of germs from person to person. In the event many schools and colleges are taking precautions to ensure that the spread of the virus can be contained as far as possible.
In Canada precautions such as room service of meals in dormitories, designated washroom stalls and the facility of hand sanitizing available everywhere are being put into place.
Residents of college premises including students and faculty as well as support staff will be educated and trained for Swine Flu. If students get ill, the authorities will then know how to react, to place the student in isolation as far as possible. Infected individuals will be required to wear masks.
Institutions are using posters, email, student handbooks and websites to hammer home messages on proper hand washing techniques, correct ways to cough and sneeze, and staying home if ill.
Elsewhere, such as in the US, college officials have been working for months to make sure they’re prepared to handle an outbreak of swine flu cases on campus and, if necessary, to continue educating students even in a worst-case scenario.
A “learning contract” between instructors and students is proposed; that will provide for the continuation of class work even if a student cannot complete the semester on campus or if classes have to be suspended. A notification system to keep students and their parents, as well as staff, informed, is also underway. Creation of an “isolation unit” in a dormitory on campus is also on the anvil.
Obviously there is much of this that can and should be implemented on campuses in India as well.
