The World Health Organisation has announced that till date, about 2,800 lives have been claimed by the H1N1 Swine flu virus all over the world. The reason for this is not that this virus stain is particularly virulent but that it is spreading very fast, according to this Medical News Today report.
The report indicates that the in the Southern hemisphere, the rates of infection from the virus seems to be tapering off, whereas in the northern hemispheres, in countries like the US, this is on the rise.
Meanwhile a Bloomberg report examines the efficacy of the one dose vaccine and a two dose vaccine saying that the latter may be more efficacious. Americans may need two vaccine doses instead of one to be immunized against swine flu because officials plan to exclude ingredients used to boost immune responses in shots made by Novartis AG and GlaxoSmithKline Plc according to the report.
The difference is that the vaccines that use an adjuvant will be less likely to require two doses, whereas the vaccines that do not use the adjuvant will require two doses. Sufficient levels were achieved in 80 percent of patients after the first shot, and 90 percent of patients after a second shot according to the report.
